The Mansion House served as Joseph and Emma’s second home in Nauvoo, and they first moved into it on August 31, 1843. At first, Joseph let guests stay there free of charge, but it eventually became necessary for him to charge to keep up the house. Just as with the Red Brick Store, the Mansion House also served as a venue where several temple ordinances were performed before the Nauvoo Temple was finished.
