One argument that could be used against the authenticity of the place Nahom of the Book of Mormon, is that Joseph Smith could have simply picked it randomly from a map. Did this name appear on any maps of his day? Turns out, the answer is yes!
In my research, I looked at seventeen different maps all dating before 1828 before the Book of Mormon was published. I found that seven of these maps bore the name (in some form or other) "Nahom" while ten of the maps did not.
